Broken Melody

Broken Melody

Have you ever been so broken that you were at a loss for words or strength to express how you felt? I'm positive that I have. There are numerous things that you are supposed to do or be as a woman or man, wife or husband, friend, daughter or son, girlfriend or boyfriend, or fiancée. The world expects you to be strong, capable, compassionate, attractive, handsome, and a perfect Christian, among other things. It is just exhausting how this world wants perfection in an imperfect world. Does this sound right?

As a result, many of us end up broken when we strive to accomplish these goals. Conversely, when we turn to friends, relatives, or other personal friends for guidance on how to navigate our brokenness, they refuse to help. It's not that they don't love or care about us; rather, it's just that they are also walking a broken melody.

A broken melody is our lives. We were always supposed to face both pain and adversity in this world in addition to delight. Even while these difficulties are not what we want in life, they are what give our lives a lovely, broken melody. When I find myself in broken seasons I love to read Psalms 30 one of my favorite bible passages since it says:

I will exalt you, Lord,
    for you lifted me out of the depths
    and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
Lord my God, I called to you for help,
    and you healed me.
You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead;
    you spared me from going down to the pit.

Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people;
    praise his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a moment,
    but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
    but rejoicing comes in the morning.

When I felt secure, I said,
    “I will never be shaken.”
Lord, when you favored me,
    you made my royal mountain[c] stand firm;
but when you hid your face,
    I was dismayed.

To you, Lord, I called;
    to the Lord I cried for mercy:
“What is gained if I am silenced,
    if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
    Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
10 Hear, Lord, and be merciful to me;
    Lord, be my help.”

11 You turned my wailing into dancing;
    you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
12 that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.
    Lord my God, I will praise you forever.( BibleGateway, 2011)

Life is difficult, as we can see here. Everybody will experience pain, but everything changes when they recognize that God is the one they should turn to in their hour of need. While being with our father causes us to undergo inward transformation, it does not guarantee that we will not experience suffering or heartbreak. David had to overcome several obstacles throughout his life. But he was a man after the very nature of God. It was not because David was flawless that God loved him. If you study the Bible, you will see that although David was broken, he knew who to turn to.

I would like to encourage you to give God your brokenness today. In your loss of confidence and words. Turn to the God who went to the cross for us because He knows what it's like to be broken. The one who created us and knows us best is the most suitable one to lean on. Calling on God and remaining in his presence during a period of hardship has a certain power. You see, in Psalms 30, David not only realized that he was broken, but what ultimately set him free was his persistent prayer to God.

Even though it may feel like a struggle to you, keep walking in your broken melody because your testimony is making a beautiful song. Our shattered humanity is a living example of God's glory, not a waste. Brokenness is not a terrible thing. It enables us to see beyond ourselves and causes us to rely more on God. Sing your Broken Melody, for you are not alone, God is with you.

Prayer:

God I hope that whoever reads this will see their brokenness as a chance to grow and lean into you rather than as a hindrance. In the midst of suffering, may each broken person shine for your glory. People who find themselves at your feet when they are in agony, confusion, despair, or at their lowest point are able to give it to you. May their testimony be a broken melody that speaks to the hearts of many. When they are at their lowest like David, help them to walk in your love. Help them understand they are not alone and that you are with them. We are grateful for our brokenness since it lets us perform our broken melodies for your praise. Amen.

Here is a song that I LOVE to listen to. I hope that it encourages you!
