Called to Make a Change: Embracing God's Purpose Despite Doubt

Have you ever felt unseen, unappreciated, or like your gifts were being buried because others did not believe in you? I have. In a previous job, I worked diligently, poured my heart into my work, and used my talents to the best of my ability. Yet, my potential was overlooked. My ideas were dismissed, my efforts undervalued, and I began to doubt myself. Instead of standing firm in the gifts God had given me, I shrunk back. I stopped offering ideas, silenced my creativity, and held back my talents—all because someone else didn’t see my worth.

But here’s the truth: The world’s opinion does not define us—God’s calling does.

God Calls Us to Make a Difference

The Bible is filled with stories of people who were overlooked by others but chosen by God for something great. One of my favorite examples is Gideon. When God called him to lead Israel, he doubted his own ability:

“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive” (Judges 6:15-16, New International Version).

Gideon saw himself as weak and incapable, but God saw a mighty warrior. Just like Gideon, we must trust that God’s plan is greater than human doubt—even our own. If God has given us gifts, talents, and a calling, we must step forward boldly, knowing He will equip us for the journey ahead.

Stepping Into Your Calling

God does not want us to hide our talents out of fear or because of the opinions of others. Jesus himself said:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16, NIV).

We are called to be a light—to create, inspire, and bring hope to those around us. If someone else’s doubt has caused you to dim your light, it’s time to reignite it. God has placed a purpose in you that no one can take away.

Final Thoughts

No matter who has doubted you in the past, God has already called you worthy, equipped, and chosen. Just as He called Gideon, He calls you—to create, to inspire, and to bring His light into the world.

So, keep shaping, keep creating, and keep trusting that the work of your hands is part of His greater plan.
