Grace for the Process: Trusting God in Your Christian Growth Journey
Share
Do you ever feel frustrated with your spiritual growth? I know I do. Sometimes, I want change to happen instantly. I want my prayers to be answered yesterday, my habits to stick immediately, and my heart to feel perfect right now. But growth—true, lasting growth—takes time. And in the impatience, we can forget a key truth: God is still at work in us, even when we can’t see it.
Philippians 1:6 reminds us, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” This verse is a gentle but powerful reminder that the process is as important as the progress. God isn’t rushed, and neither should we be.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of perfectionism. We see someone else’s journey and feel behind, or we look at our own progress and become discouraged. Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Sometimes, our plans are impatient and fast, but God’s timing is always perfect. He is shaping us in ways we can’t fully see or measure.
So how do we walk in grace for the process?
-
Celebrate small victories. Every prayer prayed, every act of obedience, every choice to trust God is a step forward.
-
Shift focus from perfection to progress. Growth is rarely linear. Allow yourself to learn, fail, and grow without shame.
-
Trust God mid-process. Even when the results aren’t visible, God is working. He’s cultivating patience, faith, and character.
The journey isn’t meant to be rushed. Like a seed growing into a tree, spiritual growth unfolds over time, with seasons of quiet development, stretching, and sometimes discomfort. But every season is for our good and God’s glory.
Dear sister, let’s give ourselves grace for the process. Let’s trust God with the timeline, rest in His work, and embrace the slow, sometimes messy, but beautiful journey of transformation.
