Let’s not let other people’s lack of love make us believe that God is a doctor who inflicts pain. Let’s choose to believe that God is a God of healing because that is His character.

Vionette LeGrand

When I was a child, I was always terrified of going to the doctor. I was scared to go to the doctor because of a bad experience with a previous doctor. When I went to the dentist, pediatrician, or psychiatrist, the memory of fear and pain would overcome me. As I grew up, I noticed that the purpose of the doctors was not to inflict pain but to help me grow healthy and heal.

I wonder how many of us see God as a doctor who inflicts pain instead of a doctor who heals? That might be because of our past trauma of people who said that they represented God but hurt us to the very core with spiritual abuse, verbal abuse, or betrayal. Maybe it’s because they used God against you, and you started to doubt that He still loved you and could use you.

Whatever the reason you see God as a doctor who inflicts pain instead of healing, I want to encourage you. God is not a doctor who inflicts pain. He might get close to our wounds and help them heal just like my pediatrician did with me, but His intention is never to destroy you as a person. In God’s eyes, you are precious.

John 4:7-8 says, ” 7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God because God is love.”1 Those people that hurt you were not a representation of God. If you experienced a moment where there was a lack of love from a leader that represented God, that was not God’s character. In the word of God, it says that God is love, and whoever does not love doesn’t know God.

When we experience situations that hurt us, we need to have the word of God, and questions that remind us of God’s character and love for us. There are different questions that I ask myself, but my favorite one is, “What I just experienced, a representation of God’s love for me?” If the answer is no, we must understand the situation that happened was a person’s sinful nature and not God’s character. God doesn’t condone people’s lack of love towards one another.

Let’s not let other people’s lack of love make us believe that God is a doctor who inflicts pain. Let’s choose to believe that God is a God of healing because that is His character. The more we read the word of God and remind ourselves of God’s character and love for us, the more we grow up as Christians. Then like me, as we grow older and spiritually mature. We will realize that God is a doctor who heals and doesn’t inflict pain.

Walk with me as I continue to write about the Spiritual Healing that God does in me. Remember that as we continue to grow in Christ, Spiritual Healing is to be Expected, and that is how S.H.E. came to be.
